13th September 2017 11:10 AM
A couple from Richmond, Virginia, have come forward to claim a Mega Millions prize of $1 million, having matched five main numbers from the drawing on July 21st.
Dana Nystrand and Matt Hazzard bought their winning ticket at the Corner Mart store, which is located on 4027 West Broad Street. Nystrand bought five tickets whilst on her way to pick up a pizza.
When Nystrand realised that they had won, she sent a text to her partner saying: "I need to talk to you. I think we won a million dollars!" The winning numbers for the July 21st, 2017 drawing were 18, 31, 36, 50, 74 and Mega Ball 10. You can view the full prize breakdown and payouts on the Winning Numbers page.
Nystrand chose her numbers by using the Quick Pick option, where numbers are randomly selected by a computer. When asked how they would spend the winnings, Hazzard, who works as an attorney, commented that he plans on paying off his student loans, while Nystrand, a marketing manager, said that they may go on a vacation.
The Corner Mart store where the winning ticket was purchased will also receive a vendor’s bonus of $10,000. This was one of five tickets that had matched five numbers in the July 21st drawing, just missing out on the top prize and was the only $1 million ticket sold in Virginia.
