David Trapp, a Southern California man, has stepped forward to claim his $61 million Mega Millions prize winnings. The lucky player bought his lottery ticket at the 7-Eleven in Laguna Hills for the Friday April 28th drawing. His ticket matched all six main numbers; 6, 13, 18, 20 and 31 and Mega Ball 13.
Lottery officials reported that Trapp had chosen the winning numbers by using the birthdays of family numbers and that he allowed the Mega Number to be chosen by Quick Pick.
Trapp commented on his win saying, “It really hasn’t sunk in. It’s either real or a very long and detailed dream. I don’t really see myself as a millionaire. It’s a big change. We’re going to take it one step at a time.” He also mentioned what he planned to do with the winnings, including buying a new house and investing in a selection of trusts.
The Orange County player can now choose between the cash lump sum of $37.2 million or the full $61 million (before federal taxes) spread out in annual payments over the next 30 years.
The Laguna Hills 7-Eleven will also receive a vendor’s bonus of $305,000 for selling the winning ticket.
Friday’s Mega Millions jackpot is worth an estimated $43 Million. There is still time to buy your ticket for the draw from an authorized retailer, or players can choose their numbers online.
